Employability Support

Everyone who comes into the 999 Club has the opportunity to get help with looking for a job. We do this because a job can help you stay off the streets. We call this Employability Support.

You must be legally allowed to work in the UK to get help with looking for work.

We can help anyone in Lewisham with a history of homelessness get involved with positive activities and find work.

The Gateway has computers that you can use to look for jobs and register on Universal Jobmatch. The Employability Support Worker can meet with you to talk about:

  • Your skills
  • What kind of job you want
  • What kind of job you might get

If you want more training, we can guide you towards courses and qualifications that will help you get the career you want. If you haven’t worked in a while, we can help arrange work experience. We will try and match you with a mentor who will support you in your search for a job.

We can also:

  • Help you to write your CV
  • Help with interview practice
  • Help you work out how and when to tell people you have convictions

We know that some employers aren’t fair to people who have been homeless. We have made links with employers who understand that everyone faces challenges and that you can do a good job.

If you are homeless, or have experienced homelessness, and would like help to find a new job then come into the Gateway between 10.30 and 12.00 any week day and ask for Employability Support. We will make an appointment to see you.
