Project Volunteer

As a Project Volunteer you will be assisting our Project Worker to support clients who use our Day Centre.

The main duty of the role will involve completing initial assessments for first time attendees but will also revolve around supporting clients with basic issues they might be facing, such as issues with their benefits or supporting them through language, literacy and other communicative barriers. When a client presents with a more complex query, understanding the relevant advisor to book them an appointment with will be key to ensuring our services run effectively.

Building relationships with our clients, new and regular, will also be integral to fulfilling the Project Volunteer role, so that even if they do not require any immediate assistance, when they do they feel comfortable in requesting it.

You’ll need excellent communication and people skills as well as confidence and enthusiasm. You’ll be working with people who have varying degrees of vulnerability and can, at times, present with challenging behaviour. You don’t need to have worked with homeless people before, but must be comfortable handling sensitive information and be perceptive to the challenges that clients might be facing. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to progress to a career in health or social care.

Duties may include:

• Initial Assessments on our database
• Assist clients with issues of a low complexity
• Book appointments with appropriate advisors
• Chat with homeless people
• Help to solve problems
• Befriending

Full induction, training in relevant skills and knowledge, supervision, monthly reflective practice will be given. We provide lunch and travel expenses and a DBS check. We ask you to commit to a minimum of one session a week for six months. Hours: Monday – Friday 8:45am – 1pm or 12:30pm – 4pm Or all day with a 1 hour lunch break
