Sometimes, the difference between homelessness and home is having someone in your corner who knows the ropes and won’t give up.

When Dave first came to 999 Club, he'd been homeless for two years.

Every day felt like a struggle. He was living with severe anxiety, having suicidal thoughts, and felt completely overwhelmed by the housing system. Forms, appointments and endless waiting lists seemed impossible to navigate alone.

Like so many people facing homelessness, Dave wasn't just without a home. He felt isolated, exhausted and out of options.

That's when he met one of our expert staff.

Together, they took things one step at a time managing to get Dave access to mental health support and vital appointments with the council. Our staff accompanied Dave to housing assessments and property viewings standing by his side every step of the way.

When obstacles appeared, someone was there beside Dave to help him keep moving forward.

Today, Dave has a home of his own.

He's rebuilding his confidence, reconnecting with other people, and regularly attends our Men's Talking Group, where he's making friends and becoming part of a supportive community.

A safe place to live changed everything. But first, Dave needed someone in his corner.

A pathway home

You’ve tried the chatbot. You’ve waited on hold for an hour. Now you’re typing everything out again in an online form but…….Computer says no.

We all know how impersonal, time-consuming and patience-testing it can be to get things done these days.

Now imagine trying to do it without:

  • ID or a passport
  • A phone
  • Access to WiFi
  • A laptop
  • A fixed address
  • A bank account
  • Fluent English
  • Any money
  • Somewhere safe to sleep tonight

This is the situation many people face before they find the 999 Club…

Local people, often overwhelmed and isolated, are trying to navigate complex systems while dealing with the daily reality of homelessness.

For hundreds of people across Lewisham and Greenwich, this is not fleeting frustration. It is their daily reality. Passed from pillar to post.

That’s when 999 Club steps in…

Every day, our team of experts work alongside local people to identify and overcome the barriers standing between homelessness and home. We work with over 1000 people each year to make sure they have the best chance of leaving homelessness behind them for good.

Our team is there...
