As a Housing, Employment and Advice Team (HEAT) Volunteer, you will play a vital role in assisting individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity to secure private rented accommodation and navigate the social housing application process. Your efforts will directly contribute to improving the lives of those in need by helping them find stable and secure housing solutions.

As a HEAT volunteer, you will make a tangible difference in the lives of those facing housing challenges. You will gain valuable experience in housing advocacy, client support, and community service. You will be part of a compassionate and dedicated team working to address homelessness in your community.

Skills and attributes required:

  • Compassion and Empathy: A strong commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and understanding their unique needs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, landlords, and estate agents.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, keep accurate records, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Proactive Attitude: A self-starter who can take initiative and work independently when required.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using the internet for property searches and familiar with basic office software (e.g., email, word processing).

Duties may include...

 Assisting Clients in Housing Search:

  • Work closely with clients to understand their housing needs and preferences.
  • Search online listings for suitable private rented accommodations.
  • Reach out to landlords and estate agents to inquire about available properties.
  • Set up viewings.
  • Keep detailed records of all housing searches, communications, and client interactions.

Supporting Social Housing Applications:

  • Help clients apply for social housing, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately.
  • Assist clients with the bidding process for social housing, guiding them through each step.

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to progress to a career in health, homelessness, social care or welfare work.  We'll provide a full induction, training in relevant skills and knowledge, supervision and monthly reflective practice. We'll provide lunch, cover any travel expenses and arrange a DBS check.

We ask you to commit to a minimum of one session a week for six months. Hours are Thursdays, 10:00 – 15:00.
