Zoe works as a researcher for the NHS. She has been volunteering at the 999 Club for a year and started volunteering because she had an extra day in the workweek and wanted to do something useful. She has made friends with volunteers here which is really nice. She has enjoyed meeting a lot of lovely people who work and volunteer here and who come as clients. “I like feeling like I’ve made a difference to somebody’s day. It is all a bit bleak at the moment so it’s nice to support people if you can.”

She used to make breakfast for clients and help them with IT and laundry. She also answered the phones and helped with enquiries. “Now, I volunteer on reception, doing initial assessments and welcoming people to the 999 Club. I also sort out donations and give out food and clothes parcels. It makes me feel good to be doing something tangible that people need.”
